Artist’s Statement

This work explores the idea of stillness.

I have been working for a long-time showing movement in still places, this time, I have tried to find a sense of being completely still, silent in the wide landscape.

I have thought about forms that feel steadfast and grounded. The large bottle nurtures the tiny bottle, a still life about feeling still.

The work is thrown and altered, in porcelaneous stoneware. The surfaces are built up with slips and oxides after the line work is inlaid into the clay body. The work is high fired in reduction.
