Land’s Edge

August 2026

Artist Statement

Where we live, the land meets the sea in a tumble of headlands and cliffs.

Each day the cliffs change, the wind and water eat at their very being, shaping the layered rock, exposing the hardest edges. Every day shows a different colour, a different line and reminds one of the ancientness of our place.

In my work for this exhibition, Lands Edge, I am addressing the cliffs, I want my work to have their steadfastness, my surfaces to feel that they have borne witness to the changing world and bare the marks that have been hurled at them.

Joint Statement: Sarah and Jo

Lands Edge is an exhibition exploring the cliffs and the water, the soft sand and the jagged rocks that form the coastal fringe where Sarah and Jo live.

The combination of the artists’ work in this exhibition allows large sentinel pieces to contrast with ephemeral porcelain fragments, to show the dynamic nature of this landscape.

Sarah Ormonde looks to the headlands; “ to be held in the heart of stillness where nothing is still”

And Jo Victoria plays in the surf;  “ where air meets water, (and) vision and touch become entwined”

In this exhibition Sarah and Jo have used the space of the gallery to explore how their separate practices, about the landscape, can further inform us of how it feels to stand on the rocky headland, to have the wind and salt touch our skin, and to more deeply understand the passage of time that this ever-changing landscape exposes.
